Robert confirms Hypnagogic remixes

Robert has posted the news about the Hypnagogic States remix ep on the official site. Besides the previously posted remixes, he says there will also be a 65DOS remix called Exploding Head Syndrome. He's posted the cover artwork too. And then there's this bit:
"The Cure’s new studio album, their 13th, is scheduled for release on 13th October via Suretone/Geffen... but what does schedule ever know?!!"

Hmm...

  4. Did I read that right? 65 Days are remixing all 4 singles into one track? Thats more like it Mr Smith.

  5. nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

don't dare move that release date - I know them train times into East Sussex - I'll come and get my copy in person

  6. Ha, the album will come out next Spring and then another Summer tour. Watch. Because what does schedule really know? LOL.

  7. Not bad, let me try.

What a bunch of SELLOUTS. SERIOUSLY. Do they expect to steal every penny of MY hard-earn money with craptastic SHIT like this?? I SWEAR, they DARE pull out another STUNT like this and NOT ONLY am I NOT buying this PIECE of TURD but I'm BURNING the LEAFLETS from the OLD albums, BREAKING the CD in half, RIPPING my SHIRT oFF and CUTTING my NIPPLES until they fall on the FLOOR.
How CAN A man still LIVE AFTER SUCH outrage IS beyond mE!

(I might have capitalized the wrong words in that last sentence, sorry, for this I apologize to the good folks visiting this site, and to Robert Smith in particular, which I still desire to caress forever all the same)

  8. Oh, by the way, I'm really looking forward to this remix EP.. I think it'll be cool, and I hope that the all 4 songs in 1 remix will be cool! My only gripe: The artwork. All the artwork has been really good so far, but this remix artwork seems totally uninspired. I was hoping that it'd be more of a "remix" of all the artwork of the four singles.. not just an iTunes prefab type thing. Ah well.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Like I said in the topic before this one, I think it is really cool that the 65 DOS remixes will be included in the EP too. Even without them, I was going to buy the EP but now I feel like I won't be completely wasting my money. Thanks RSX!!!

And I wonder with a name like "Exploding Head Syndrome", how loud it will be? Those guys were out of control with the sound during the tour.

The Cover art looks good but it would be nice if it was something totally new but I do love the colors. And when I saw that comment about the album release I thought oh no here we go again! No more delays please!!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Anah: Who showed you the memo? That's supposed to be a secret! At least for a few more weeks. : )

    ReplyDelete
  11. The cover art is just the single covers with the colors inverted.

    ReplyDelete
  12. So there will be a new ep of remixes each month until next spring?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Robert did hint that there could be more than one...

    ReplyDelete
  14. ...would you be willing to give up an October 13th release date, for an early 2009 release - with follow up tour?

Does Robert continue to post little jabs about the October 13th release because of all the disbelief that he reads on the net, or to prepare us for the possibility of another delay?

    ReplyDelete
  15. i'm sorry about the monkeysuit.

    and the nipples.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm about 80% sure it's going to be delayed until 2009. *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  17. Morris: Me personally? Yes, in a heartbeat. : )

    ReplyDelete
  18. way to break the 4-year curse, Robbie.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ironically, I'd expect 65 Days of Static to do an excellent job remixing. They are a fine band.

In retrospect, I see that my reaction was quite absurd. Actually, getting even marginally worked up over an EP, or for that matter, any record, is pathetic. Real life is what matters, not this stuff.

If we're healthy, we have many diversions, none of which is a pathological obsession. So, before I do any further damage to my mental health, I'm moving on. I'm sure there's a teen or tween out there to take my seat (I shall pray that undesirables such as new fans over the age of 20 are somehow repelled), so it's all good!

    ReplyDelete
  20. So do you guys think there is a solid chance of the album being delayed 'till 2009? I really don't know/don't care. Yes I want the album, but I do like all these monthly goodies we are getting too. I just don't want there to be another dry spell of nothingness again.

    ReplyDelete
  21. god. it's all so chinese democracy/ the follow-up to loveless...

    ReplyDelete
  22. There's no confirmation of any more delays, but when you are hearing the same thing, over and over, you start to wonder.
And now with this "Schedule" bit from Robert, you wonder if there's going to be some fire rising from that smoke soon.
Or it could just be Robert messing with all of us. : )

  24. DELAYED? Jesus!! i dont like this kind of jokes i hope you are kidding :S

    ReplyDelete
  25. Monkey: I think his face was sliced in half.

Carlos: No delay has been announced. Only rumor and speculation.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 65DAYSOFSTATIC!!! - doing all the songs!! they will be kick ass :)

that almost makes up for the fact that Jared Leto will be shitting.. oops, i mean remixing The Only One.

I am most happiest for 65daysofstatic, they have such little exposure and press compared to what they have done musically. by putting them on the same EP as FOB members, jade puget (AFI :)], MCR, etc. they will get much desrved ATTENTION!! YAY!! but I guess soon I won't be one of the few kiddies out there who know them, but will hold onto bragging rights as one of the first to hear them.
oh god, that must make me elitist! =/. oh the horror!

    ReplyDelete
  27. One last thing...

For the record, I'm all for maximizing exposure to potential new fans. The part that stings is Robert's focus on very young Americans (Bowie pun not intended). Yes, they represent a large market share, but really, are they any more worthy than older fans from around the world? From what I've seen, yes, they are. If he'd selected a wider range of remixers with the potential to bring in new fans from all over and across a large age range, there would not have been an issue. (Jsyk, I'm a yank.)

(And again, I was really impressed with 65 Days of Static, and expect their work on the EP to be a good thing.)

    ReplyDelete
  28. The more I think about this the more it feels like a clever move. It does feel as if he is targeting the young audience however, it feels like he's trying to target an audience specfically in the UK.

I don't know how big each of these bands are in the USA but Fallout Boy, MCR and AFI have been huge in the UK for the last 2 or 3 years.
Sellouts? Well, whats the music industry all about? Isn't it selling your music?
If you're gonna call this a sellout move then you may as well call the single a month a sellout move.

    ReplyDelete
  29. You could call everything the Cure have ever done a sell-out move for that matter. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Craig-
i see on the photo galley pictures that people send of things, like the band or their cure stuff like the ceramic robert and things like that, what do i do or where do i send my pictures? (if it is okay). I have pictures of dolls that are supossed to be robert and porl i think they are really cool and i wanted to share them :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. At least I've now got a pretty good idea as to why Robert used an American flag to go along with the HS news...

65DOS + 4 forgettable yank emo bands tricking out the songs.

Who's next? Rihanna? Surely her cred is no less impressive than the above-referenced 4.

    P.S. Thanks, Perry. Nice to know there's a song called '16'. :-\

    Enough. I really am bailing...

    ReplyDelete
  32. I"m not a big remix person, but this could be fun. To tell you the truth, Robert is burning me out. I just want the damn album already.

    ReplyDelete
  33. "this movie was TERRIBLE! where's the vial? i need RELEASE! nothing ever happens around here! it's so QUIET. stop TALKING. leave me ALONE."

That was LOL Monkey, you're good.

They've had much better musical talent remix their work, but I'm still holding out hope for this EP. And woohoo 65Days!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Robert works in mysterious ways, I will personally be very disappointed if there is a new delay, I so want to hear the new album this yr.

As for people still going on about the remixers and emo...geez enough already

    ReplyDelete
  35. alastair, hello. :-)

i know.. i want the album NOW NOW NOW. if it's delayed i will be very upset. but i won't spit bile - i'm determined not to! LOL... we'll see if i can hold out..

    ReplyDelete
  36. Perry: That is NOT the track list. That has been floating around for months and has been debunked already. Someone took the titles that are known or that were announced last year, and made up a fake track list.

    ReplyDelete
  37. does anybody have the link to that meebo COF room?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jesus. Robert.............Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance? Great. Just GREAT.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  40. GHT: That's been up for a week now. : )

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oops...Heh that shows I would go on COF WAY MORE OFTEN than the official...Hmm, what does that say? =X

    ReplyDelete
  42. the memo i saw said they were sticking to the October date - then releasing the Dark Christmas album in March 09 - then touring the two in the summer

    Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I love Without You... always great to see Robert using the acoustic. The best Single since A Letter to Elise and the best of the four b-sides.

    1. The Perfect Boy 9/10
    2. Without You 9/10
    3. Sleep When I'm Dead 8/10
    4. Down Under 8/10
    5. NY Trip 7/10
    6. All Kinds Of Stuff 7/10
    7. The Only One 6/10
    8. Freakshow 6/10

    ...my short ranking.

    ReplyDelete
  44. my personal ranking:

    1) Freak Show - 7+
    2) Sleep When I'm Dead - 7
    3) Perfect boy: 6,5
    4) All kind of Stuff: 6,5
    5) Down Under: 6+
    6) NT Trip: 6
    7) Only One: 5,5
    8) Without You: 5

    Live Songs

    1) Underneath the Stars: 9
    2) Baby Rad Dog book: 8
    3) A boy i never Knew: 5

So..For now, the singles are good.
    the B-side are nice.
I still waiting for something really strong and the live songs goes in that direction.

    ..

i dont think there will be another delay..maybe untile november but if the decide to publish the record the next year that means that they are planning to release another bunch of singles..
    which would sound quiet ridicoulus.

    ReplyDelete
  45. So, how do you understand this part about "Exploding Head Syndrome"?
Will it be 4 separate singles, or it will be one megamix?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Not so crazy about this either.. But 65DOS remix will surely kick ass, they were awesome on the 4Tour!

Btw here's my ranking of the released singles so far:

    1) The Only One - 8+ (Classic cure)
    2) NY Trip - 8 (Just lovely)
    3) Freakshow - 9+ (Freakin' good ;)
    4) All Kinds of Stuff - 2 (worst b-side ever.. listened to it a bunch of times but it just doesn't grow on me..)
    5) Sleep When I'm Dead - 9 (Great!)
    6) Down Under - 7+ (Hauntingly reminiscent of 2 Late, but good nontheless)
    7) The Perfect Boy - ?? (No idea yet, but guessing it will pass for a worthy 8 out of 10)
    8) Without You - ?? (Hmm, not so crazy 'bout this one yet, it just sounds, well.. strange but think it will be average, a 6 maybe?)

    And the live songs..

    1) Underneath the Stars - ?? (...haven't listened to it yet.. waiting to hear the studio version first.., I know.. I can't wait!)
    2) A Boy I Never Knew - 10 (Hauntingly beautiful)
    3) Baby Rag Dog Book - 10 (Just amazing!, best intro EVER)

So there you go.. looking very promising indeed.. Can't wait for the album release!

  47. I'm glad for them 65DOS get a remix,

it's a nice thing, given their preshows were postponed too

I'm also glad there are remixes
After all it's better to have all the remixes on the same cd

  48. the big ginge: I am soooo looking forward to the "dark christmas" album. I love their upbeat pop stuff, but their "darker" stuff gets so profound and puts you in a totally different head space... another planet… OMG and another tour next summer... SO EXCITED.

lesse, I'll just list the singles in order of preference.

1)Down Under = (my fav so far. Is it the "non-emphasis" of guitar? Well it's not "guitar heavy" anyway. Love the lyrics. There's just something very unique about it compared to the others, it stands out and I actually like the percussion!)

2)All Kinds of Stuff = (rocks! great creative melody, neat lyrics, everything comes together)

3)Freakshow = (weird, retro-ish kinda pop tune, love the screechy guitar solo on this one! Not as fabulously spectacular as AKOS tho)

4)Sleep When I'm Dead = (it's alright. After listening to it, I found the lyrics a bit repetitive and a little too inane(?). Melody's okay.

5)The Only One = (I go back and forth on this one!!)

    UTS,BRDB,ABINK- love them all equally!

Should some of the b-sides become a-sides?? It appears there is no clear consensus among the fans on these singles!

    ReplyDelete
  49. The Tens:

FS - Lyrically and musically dynamic; weird and post-punky funky fun. The best of the bunch!

    The Nine Point Fives:

AKOS - Sweeps you up into cyclonic swirls of fury

DU - Swimming in delicious sounds and poetry

    The Nines:

The Only One - Derivative but good bawdy fun and excessively catchy with the falsetto flourishes

    The Seven Point Fives/Eights:

SWID - Eh. I like it and sometimes groove wildly to it, but i'ts just a bit lackluster compared to the others.

    The Six Point Fives/Sevens:

NYTrip: Eh. Kind of annoying, to my ears, but it's not BAD, per se.

Can't comment on TBP/WY until freakin' TUESDAY.

  55. sorry - memo was just silliness - just got the real memo - the triple with live DVD of Charlotte show is now on!

  59. I am really very upset. I have listened to the longer clip dozens of times and I CANNOT get into it. Someone please assure me that the song will grow on me and all will be well in my Cure-world. I just don't like those vocal effects. For me, the song works SANS any effects - just a stripped down piece with no technical embellishments.

    I'm a rambling nervous wreck. Don't mind moi. :-)
