4:13 Dream pushed back to Oct. 28th

Universal has rescheduled the new album release, and as of today, they have it listed for Oct. 28th (in the US). But some good news, it's listed for release as a double vinyl album, too.
(Thanks Friend of COF)

And Amazon has the cd and vinyl listed for pre-ordering.
(Thanks Dave)

  2. Oh my God! 13th, 13th, 13th, 13th, 13th...and now? 28th? what a shame...

  3. drag on the non-13th date, but otherwise... :)

    apropos i guess.

still excited! see this excited look on my face?

  6. 'Double vinyl album' doesn't necessarily mean double album per ce,

Hoping it will be though, more Cure to love, honey. Or something.

I think it's fair to say that the album's probably going to be seventeen or eighteen tracks. That would be nice!

  7. Didn't mean to imply that the album would be a double, just that it would be coming out on vinyl.

  8. Craig, we're all hoping of course, for a double album.. fingers crossed, eh?

I reckon the fact that it's on double vinyl is quite a good sign. Was the last album on double vinyl or single vinyl? Albums are as a general rule a lot longer nowadays than they were, that it's necessary to put things on two records...

  9. Oh NO, another delay !!!

    Now, what´s the reason ?

Double Vinyl album means that the album will be double too, or what?

I know RSx has told that the new cd is going to be a 1 single disc, but now....

Sorry, i´m confused and shocked by the new push-back.

    :(

Maybe later this afternoon will know the "official" explanations.

Again, after all the seemingly endless delays, finally we´ll get a superb album, whichever the release date that this is.

    :-0

  10. @theultraconformist

Different versions in different countries but in the UK the vinyl version of The Cure came with two extra tracks and was spread across 2 discs. I guess something similar will happen this time, willing to bet it won't be double album in the sense most want it.

  11. at least the postponing time length is getting shorter... at first it was 7 months, the second time it was about 4 months, the 3rd time it was 1 month, now it's a couple weeks.... maybe the next postponing will only be a week??

  12. Man, at this point it's just funny. Rather than experience the usual murderous rage over this announcement, I just laughed. Robert's a genius when it comes to making music, but he's terrible when it comes to organization. Wasn't it a year ago that this album was first postponed? It's taken him 12 months to pick a track-listing and come up with a title? This is all just so silly.

    ReplyDelete
  13. this really isn't that upsetting, while i don't want to wait two more weeks, it's better than being pushed back to 2009

    ReplyDelete
  14. Andrew, but you know it will be pushed to 2009, Spring in fact. Just in time for another Summer Tour to support it.

  15. double vinyl? so its a double album? or cd isnt?

not the 13th? what a bummer. that wouldve been perfect.

robert - please move the date to November 1! :)

  16. The good Elise says "Oh bugger, I really need this album soon, and these delays are driving me insane"

The bad Elise says "Yay, the delay means that I will be back from my vacation.... woohoo!!"

Sad that the 13 pattern is broken, although, to be perfectly honest, how many people actually found the cd's on the 13th?

    ReplyDelete
  17. This is such a minor delay; I just want it to be the best it can be.

Is that what you meant by double vinyl, Craig? I thought you were hinting that it would be closer to 70-some minutes than 50-some minutes on a single CD. Then again, if it's a high quality 180 gram vinyl, each song would just take up more space. Anyway, you weren't saying that at all.

The ultra conformist, I think the 2004 album came out on 4 vinyls, and that was around 80-some minutes.

I'm hoping it's more like Kiss Me, which was 76 minutes on CD but was considered a double album because it took up 2 vinyls. I hope and pray.

Speaking of hoping and praying, every liberal American needs to get out and vote, especially if their district is contentious. We can't allow a warmonger and a fundementalist warmongering intolerant hypocrite whose only qualified to be a MILF to win. Please!

  18. The double vinyl release does NOT mean it will be a double album! In fact, I would lean the other way. More likely to be a single album. If it were a double, you would be looking at 4-6 disc vinyl release. Unless UNI wants to be super cheap.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I wonder if they'll change the name of the album then?

    ReplyDelete
  20. There will be another delay fo sho fo sho. It's the cUrEy way!

Although it would be tres cool to have the Deerhunter and Cure CDs released in such proximity to each other.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm Cure and Deerhunter albums released in proximity......

  21. If it's a shipping delay why not release it for digital download on the 13th and the physical copies later?

If it's a marketing problem... how much marketing has been done for all of this anyway? I'm sure most of the purchases were made by fans on websites like this.

It would be nice to follow through on the 13 concept.

  22. HAAAAhahahaha!!!...haha... ahh...
Oh Robert! You lovable little rapscallion you!

But seriously this post made me laugh...

All I know is, they better be resting up for their next tour here. C’mon Robert, I need some Cure magic to get this sour taste of fascism out of my mouth.
Hopefully a tour will happen before I finally give up the ghost... I hope.

  23. I laughed when I read that. Seriously. I was just talking about the latest, well, what WAS the latest, album delay on The Shadowbox, and now I read this. It's truly laughable.

  25. Double vinyl most likely means b-sides will be included.

    ReplyDelete
  26. At least there's an actual Amazon listing and it can be ordered. I pro-ordered already, it said it will ship the 16th though.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This is interesting. One of the Amazon sellers lists it as being in stock in their store, ready to ship by the now-outdated sale date of October 14.

  28. Look at me, I'm all kinds of surprised! :) After all this 13th business. We get 10/28. Whatever floats his boat, I guess.

We waited this long...Whats another delay?

Still no track listing though? Does that sound right? If I remember right we knew the Bloodflowers and The Cure track listing like months before it came out.

  29. mudfeld- please do not promote your politics here. this is about music. find some fancy left wing blog to whore out your beliefs. please. i beg of you.

I have to re-think my entire life! I just don't know how I can cope with this alarming turn of events!!! How dare they!!?? :^D

  32. speaking of which, now i get to countdown to 3 things happening at the same time - cure album, community service hours due, then visiting my boyfriend at the US naval academy. : ) what a wondeful eventful ocober.

i just can't wait to have the product in my hands. i feel like it's always so up in the air none of us were expecting the last release date to be final. noone is surprised. we'll just sit patient and wait. sigh....

love ya, RSX. can't wait... well. i guess i can...

    LUCKY 13?

    9/8/2008 5:53:52 PM - by CURE:ROBERT

IN A YEARS TIME I DOUBT ANYONE WILL REMEMBER THE RELEASE DATE...

AND THE SAD REALITY IS THAT FAR FROM EMBRACING MY 13TH CONCEPT
    (DESPITE MY BEST EFFORTS)
THE MIGHTY U HAVE CHOSEN TO TOTALLY IGNORE IT
AS THEY SCHEDULE THEIR RELEASES AROUND A USA TUESDAY... AND BUSINESS IS BUSINESS...

IN FACT ''THE ONLY ONE' WAS INDEED THE ONLY ONE OF THE FIVE RELEASES SO FAR TO GET OUT ON A 13TH - AND THEN... PLAN 13 FELL APART AS FAR BACK AS JUNE!

AND THE NEXT 13TH THAT FALLS ON A TUESDAY?

    JANUARY 2009...

    SO
    OCTOBER 28TH IT WILL BE!

    RSX

    PS
NOT SURE IF IT WILL BE OUT ON THE 27TH EVERYWHERE ELSE...
BUT THEN I'M NOT SURE TMU IS SURE EITHER!

    PPS
OCTOBER 28TH IS THE 301ST DAY OF THE YEAR... SO THERE IS A 1 AND A 3 IN THERE SOMEWHERE AFTER ALL!!! YAY!!!
    DELAY? WHAT DELAY?!!

    9/8/2008 5:43:06 PM - by CURE:ROBERT

SO THE ALBUM IS OUT 13 DAYS LATER THAN PLANNED (WELL... AS LONG AS THE INTERNATIONAL DATE LINE BENDS TO FIT THE STORY? OR IF WE RUN FAST ENOUGH EAST... )

    HOWEVER
EXCITING THINGS START HAPPENING HERE ON THE 13TH OCTOBER...

MORE NEWS WHEN HYPNAGOGIC HAS BEEN BORN

    RSX

    PS
WE CANT MAKE IT HALLOWEEN BECAUSE THE MIGHTY U DONT RELEASE ON FRIDAYS... AND THERES ME WORRYING ABOUT THE FLEXIBILITY OF THE IDL!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm so happy to see that this is going to be released on vinyl. Hopefully the mastering is more conservative than has been the case on the singles.

  36. I'm pre-ordering like NOW!

    What's 13 more days???

October 28th can't come soon enough!

Is it really true we may just get this album in our hands soon?

I hope so this time around, I don't think I could handle another delay!

    ReplyDelete
  37. We need another tour......To make up for the delays....I'm so greedy :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. YES!!! The Wishful Thinking tour!

And as Andrew says "We NEED another tour" it has nothing to do with 'want'.

    ReplyDelete
  39. In fact, I 'need' a tour so much, it almost hurts.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wouldn't it be awesome if it was actually called "The Wishful Thinking Tour"?

    Or the "Fuck Universal" tour.

Either way it's all good as long it actually happens.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I had a feeling the "13th every month" plan wouldn't work out since record companies generally only release things in the US on Tuesdays. It's not just Universal.

As far as the "double album" thing goes an album is considered to be a double album if each piece of vinyl could stand on its own as a complete album. Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me has been the only true "double album" (only talking about the primary studio albums, not live stuff and compilations) The Cure have ever released (eight songs on one piece and ten on the other - remember that Faith and Pornography were complete albums with only eight songs each), even though after its release in 1987 the prevalence of CDs started to obscure matters by allowing albums to last longer. Hence you get something like Wish (as just one example) that conceptually is a single album but was so long it had to be split onto to two pieces of vinyl but in its case neither piece of vinyl could qualify as a complete single album because they only had six songs each. Also remember that the term "album" simply refers to a collection of songs, no matter what format it's on.

Looking forward to getting Dream 4:13 on vinyl. So glad they're still making them that way.

    ReplyDelete
  42. It's pretty safe to assume the album will go on longer than an hour. The 7 current songs we have heard (if they all make the final cut) run at about 30 minutes.

I'm thinking they are going to pull a fast one on us again and have more tracks added to the vinyl to justify a double release.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well, they didn't add extra tracks to Wish to necessitate putting it on two pieces of vinyl. Can't remember exactly right now about subsequent albums on vinyl.

Not that I'll have any problem with extra Dream 4:13 tracks on my vinyl copy.

    ReplyDelete
  44. @Christianz. Wish didn't need an extra track on Vinyl because it already ran for over an hour. Like most CD generation Cure albums.

The self titled however ran only for 54 minutes. This is entirely theoretical, but I'm thinking that if the album barely justifies a double LP, something like 45 minutes on one vinyl and only say 10 on the other, another track may be added to beef up the running time of the second - to avoid a double release looking like a waste.

I'm not too detailed on Vinyls or how much music one can fully hold, so like I said, it's just my theory on the running time of the new album :P.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yeah, I can see what you're getting at. On the Bloodflowers vinyl they did add an extra song and even then (if I'm remembering correctly) some of those sides of vinyl still only had two songs each.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Still trying to be a patient Cure fan! :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. i agree with andrew: let the 'Fuck Universal Tour' Begin!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. How about just the "Fuck" tour...
