The Cure have arrived in Sydney!

May 30th (9:47 PM): Last minute ticket info from Xuan - "I went to the Opera house booth and asked if some tickets would possibly released. He said often, they still hold a couple of seats and release them during the day or possibly right before the show. So for anyone who is in Sydney, any hopes of getting tickets is to keep checking the front booth (dread). If the answer is it's still sold out, then come back again (rinse repeat)."

May 30th (9:05 PM): Heron has just told me that they are doing a fan meet up (fans meeting up with other fans, not The Cure) at the SOH Opera Bar at 4:30pm. If you go, have fun!

May 30th (9:00 PM): Expect some great Cure Reflections photos here.

May 30th (8:17 PM): From The West Australian & 3 News - Lol Tolhurst rejoins The Cure for Sydney gigs.

May 30th (8:05 PM): Just in case you want to watch some live cams around the SOH - Cam 1 & Cam 2.

May 30th (9:21 AM): Grinderman sends a photo of The Cure rehearsing for the show! Photo by anonymous.

May 30th (9:06 AM):
Ben sends in a 'Reflections' ad from Rave magazine.

May 30th (12:26 AM):
Olivier sends photos of Cure Reflections tickets, both SOH & Ticketmaster versions. He will also be posting thoughts, photos, etc. from the Sydney trip here. For those without Facebook, he has also given me permission to post his stuff here on CoF, so no worries.

May 30th (12:01 AM):
Stephen Pavlovic talks to The Music Network about getting The Cure for Vivid.

May 29th (8:01 AM): Antti sends some photos of Vivid posters from around Sydney. Also, you can watch a live video feed (each night) of the light display on the sails of the SOH here.

May 28th (11:35 PM):
From Lol on Facebook - "Great to be In Australia again ! Haven't been here in a long while! Getting ready for the "Reflections" shows. Really looking forward to this."

May 28th (7:46 PM): Qiong sends a couple of photos from the Sydney Morning Herald's Spectrum Vivid guide.

May 28th (11:32 AM):
Qiong also got Robert, Simon and Lol to sign a vinyl copy of 'Faith' at the Sydney airport. More details posted here.

May 28th (8:33 AM):
Here's a photo that Qiong took with Robert at Sydney airport and another brief clip of Robert in the airport.

May 28th (8:16 AM): From April - "Christina and I were walking near the opera house when we almost literally bumped into Simon, Jason, Keith and Jeremy. We were too shy to say anything but tailed them for a bit and then lost them ...i think they were onto us!"

Original post - May 27th (5:51 PM): The Cure have made it safely to Sydney, all systems are go, and Qiong gives us a report:

"I've been very lucky to catch up with the band this morning @ Sydney Airport. The band are in great shape although Roger complained the flight was too long.

Robert seems a lot slimmer than ever, seriously. Looks so much better. When he stepped out, the first spot of him made me think of his late 80s, rejuvenated ahhhh?? which is an awesome sign !!!

I've attached a far shot of Robert leaving in the van from Sydney Airport Parking lot.

I also uploaded a video I took this morning when Robert was stepping out the terminal." (Thanks Qiong)

  4. It's ridiculous that a 12 second clip can make me so happy, but just seeing Robert again is so nice. It's been too long.

I also love that our first report from Sydney contains the words "Roger complained". Love it! It's just like the old days. Never change, my friend. : )

  5. Wow! Look at them walking the same base earth as us mortals! Ha, it's such a special feeling even to think that the Cure are currently residing in the same city as me!

very excited about the Cure action! though, i've been spoiled by live streams of festivals lately (like Coachella) and it will be tough to wait for the DVD to see the footage.

  21. Even though I am not going to the concert nor will I make it to Bestival, but this has put the biggest smile on my face. I can't believe a blurry photo and 12 second clip is making me this giddy. It's been a long time since we have had some recent pictures. Thank you!

    Enjoy the concert Australia!

    ReplyDelete
  22. So happy with these updates! Please keep them coming! I agree with !, a blurry photo and a short clip made my day!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Robert looks amazingly healthy! So happy for Qiong about the signed album!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Keith and Jeremy? Who are they? Do I need to return my Cure fan membership card?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hahaha..no. Keith Uddin is Robert's co-producer/engineer/friend and Jeremy Hayward is Robert's guitar tech.

    ReplyDelete
  28. that is so awesome Qiog!! wow, truly amazing to get that opportunity! :)

  29. This is the most exciting curenews in quite some time! I would love to be there in OZ but since it won't be happening for me then I hope you Aussies will make the experience as great for all of us as possible with your pix and commentary. :) Long live the Cure!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks for posting all this! Yes, Craig, it may seem ridiculous but seeing a recent photo of Robert (taken yesterday! Only yesterday!) makes me feel so good too!
I'm more than just a little envious of those who will be in Sydney. It's on the other side of the world for me... :/

    ReplyDelete
  33. My little sister & I are so excited about the concert tomorrow... Does anyone know where they're staying?? Yes, we too agree with Rev. Heron so, so classy Robert pushing his own luggage. A true man!!! Pruxxx

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thank you, Grinderman! Is this happening now? If not when? Is that in the SOH? What songs did you hear?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Flotsam: We ask that no one give out their hotel location, to protect the bands privacy.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey, can't give any details about the photo. This show is technically tonight (Sydney time)! In 24 hours time, first show will already be finished!

    ReplyDelete
  37. No problem, Grinderman. Totally understand. Thanks for the preview!

    ReplyDelete
  38. But the design of the room is consisent with that of the Sydney Opera House.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh sorry, I meant I can't give any details because I don't know any; I found it posted elsewhere online.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sounding good or what? Your own private show! : )

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh. Sorry. Got a bit excited.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ha, yeah, I just re-read my comment and realised how suggestive it was.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yeah, thought you were at the SOH sending out secret spy photos. : )

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hopefully there wasn't a no-photo policy at rehearsals, especially with the posting of the name of the person who took the photo. FIngers crossed someone isn't out of a job in the morning.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ah, right. Maybe i should remove her name? I just wanted to give her credit for it, and it's pretty easy to track it from that link. Yeah, I think I'll remove the name. No need to cause problems for her.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Phew; didn't want to instigate any trouble, thanks for that. Also, is there any way to delete posts from your end? My initial link has the account listed in it, but I can't delete it from my end.

    ReplyDelete
  47. P.S. you do a top job on here. Only first visited the site once these shows got announced. Everyone is grateful for the effort you put in with this website.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thanks, Grinderman. You've been an enormous help with these shows!

    ReplyDelete
  49. So who is gonna be up at 2am PST/3am MST/ and 4am EST in the USA for this show? Let's have a chat.

And Craig, anyone sending it updates?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yes, updates if allowed. SOH is supposed to be very strict when it comes to cameras/phones when a show is being filmed there, so not sure how much can be sent out during the show. At least we know the setlist already, we just need to know the encores.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I really want to hear each introduction Robert will give to a song or if any at all. The encores of course. And just overall how it's sounding and some photos.

Yeah, I see how they could be strict about it.

@Craig, are you not getting any sleep tonight also? :P

    ReplyDelete
  52. I will have to get up at 10am for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  53. 5am....I'll be logged in WOOT!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I hope the Opera House staff are strict with cameras etc.

Because it is being professionally filmed, and would you really want the dvd to be marred with footage of countless people with their phones & cameras in the air hoping to get some sub standard footage.

Here's an example of how offputting that sight can be...

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'll have to agree with the camera policy then too after watching that video. Hopefully people could be chill with the cameras and the phones and not make them the main focus.

    ReplyDelete
  56. so soon! everybody there have a wonderful time!!

i'm working late-ish tonight and then again tomorrow morning so i'll probably just be getting in some sleep during when the show is going on. but i can't wait to hear all about it and what the encores are! keep us updated :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. So soon now! I've no idea how I'll pass the rest of the day due to excitement!
Any meet and greets planned? Can't do for tonight's show but I'd love to meet fellow Cure fans tomorrow night!

    ReplyDelete
  58. okay spill it craig, what's planned for the encore??

    ReplyDelete
  59. Lara: I will check with Heron and the others to see if they have anything planned for tomorrow, and post here if they do.

jL: Don't know yet, and even if I did, I wouldn't say. Have to have some surprise for tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Just under 8 hours to go! Love the photos, videos and little bits of news from everyone down under so far. Will try to catch all the news when the shows are live even while trying to get ready for work. So cool to know The Cure are playing live again! Have a great time to all of the fans going to the shows! Looking forward to all the wonderful details soon!

    ReplyDelete
  61. is it going to be broadcasted somehow??

    will they allow cameras?

    ReplyDelete
  62. No broadcast. Being recorded for a later release.

No one will know the camera & phone policy until they get in. Supposed to be very strict about using them, but we'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  63. ok thanks Craig, too bad that there will be no broadcast, i thought maybe JJJ would cover it. :(

    ReplyDelete
  64. You're welcome, Carlos. Just wish I had better news.
