Cure Fans photoshoot in LA

"I’m starting a personal photo project which will feature portraits of hardcore Cure fans. I was inspired to do this after seeing last week’s Cure show at the Pantages, and being an avid Cure fan myself I’m confident that this will be a cool project."
See Scott's blog for more info. (Thanks Andythecurefan)

Update (04/18/12): "I'll be unveiling my new photo project "Cure People" Friday April 27th at Fifth Studios. The project is a series of portraits I have created over the past several months of diehard fans of the music group The Cure. This event, called Slideluck Potshow, will be showcasing artist's work in a slideshow presentation (I believe starts at 9pm). Fifth studios is located directly behind Urth Caffe at Hewitt and 5th (Little Tokyo Arts District). Would love to see you there and please spread the word!" (Thanks Andythecurefan)

Update (04/23/12): From Scott Witter - "Sneak peek of my photo project 'Cure People' happening at this Friday at Fifth studios. " Also, "Me with Cure fans Katie & Raeschel."

Update (05/05/12): Here's the Cure People slideshow from the exhibit. The photos are also now posted on Scott's website.

  1. This sounds like so much fun. Can't wait to see some regulars and meet new fans.

  2. What a great opportunity to see a wide range of Cure fans. I was at the first two Cure shows in the front row!!! Met a bunch of new Cure people. Chance of a lifetime to be a part of Cure history. We already was fortunate to witness The Reflections tour. Now, we have this!!! I hope this feeling from the concerts NEVER EVER goes away!!! I hope I'm worthy of being chosen to be a part of this incredible project.

  3. Love this idea, it's way cool! Just too bad he only has an open call for LA! It will be interesting to see the final snaps.

And this guys photo are fabulous! He really captures the spirits of his subjects.

  4. So he wants to take pics of cure fans? Guess I wont cut my hair off afterall... laughs!

  5. hmm, cool, but i don't like how it's calling specifically for "goth" (or other "unique") fans. all sorts of people are cure fans; i'm certainly not walking around in black or with outrageous makeup. :)

that said, hope the project comes out well, and cool idea

  6. Oooh, this will be really cool to see!

  7. @Lindsey

I agree with ya! Some Cure Fans I know dress goth like but many don't. I think he should take pictures of any & all cure fans who would like to participate no matter how they look like & dress.

  8. I guess the guy has a right to do his own project the way he wants.Having said that, just because I don't follow the band around the world, or dress the part doesn't make me any less of a true fan... just sayin'.... :)

  9. the photo shoot is got to be in Canada you know this duh even the floridians C-;

  10. What a shame it's only for LA Cure fans. I do dress pretty 'goth', so I guess I fall into the stereotype, but alas I'm in London.

  11. It Is NOT just for "goth" fans! Read this:

"I’m looking for ALL types, But particularly fans who have more of a Goth look (or can at least pull it off for the shoot). Other stylish characters are welcome too. (Note: I do realize that all Cure fans don’t go around wearing black eyeliner, etc. I don’t. But as a visual story teller it’s my job to convey a message without words so pushing the edgy look helps. That being said, if you are a true Cure fan don’t hesitate to contact me! You’re just as important.)"

  12. I FULLY agree with you Craig. It's meant for ALL Cure fans. At The Reflections shows, I wore my Russhian hockey jersey...like RS wore in the gone video. I was practially the only one wearing red!!! I'm glad I was in the front row for the monday and tuesday shows b/c I can only imagine people saying, "What's up with the guy wearing the hockey jersey to a Cure concert?" Wearing black to a Cure concert isn't a prerequisite to being a Cure fan. I think you're love for the group is an integral part...and not what you wear. But, even I have to admit...I must have stuck out like a sore thumb on monday and tuesday.

  13. Oh Marc, that was you in the hockey jersey with the loaded Cure patches. You looked great! I would like to add you on FB please :o)

  14. Hello Stephanie, I would have emailed you to reply. However, I couldn't find your addy. I think you might have been mistaking me for this other guy who was wearing his Atlanta Thrashers NHL jersey...or another NHL team. My jersey doesn't have patches on the shoulders like the NHL jersey do. I remember seeing the guy at The Pantages show on monday too. Are you going to try out for the LA shoot???

  15. Ah! Sorry for the mix-up. I only attended the NY shows and there I saw a guy wearing a hockey jersey (can't remember the team) with tons of Cure patches.

If only the photographer would travel to shoot Cure fans all over the world. That would be a nice project.

  16. I think is a nice project! And it seems that the photographer know about Cure and Cure fans, I appear with some photos 'as Cure fan' on the argentine magazine 'Los Inrockuptibles'. This happened thanks to my girlfriend Ligia Berg, on that mag were a photo contest and the topic were 'vices, and she took photos of me and my 'CUre vice' :P, check it if you want; https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150545579158061.372594.259592578060&type=3
    Best wishes!

  17. What a huge disappointment. According to this photo shoot most Cure fans are only people who are beautiful model types whose parents weren't even together when Three Imaginary Boys were released.

Last time I looked The Cure's followers are real people.

  18. I have been a die-hard fan since I was 16...I'm now almost 40...I don't look like those people!

    1. So funny cuz the same is true here. That 'look' hasn't exactly been indicative of most cure fans for several years now. Most of us have grown up a bit and just don't care to dress up like that anymore. Not that there's anything wrong with that at all.... lots of nice eye candy in that photo stream, that's of sure! But just judging by the photographer's stated goal, I think he missed the mark by a mile.

  21. My initial reaction was similar( ie, i don't look like that, and i'm a Cure fan) then i read on this blog the following:
"I’m looking for ALL types, But particularly fans who have more of a Goth look (or can at least pull it off for the shoot). Other stylish characters are welcome too. (Note: I do realize that all Cure fans don’t go around wearing black eyeliner, etc. I don’t. But as a visual story teller it’s my job to convey a message without words so pushing the edgy look helps. That being said, if you are a true Cure fan don’t hesitate to contact me! You’re just as important.)"

So i understand more the angle now, even though i think a more varied collection of fans would have validated the initial idea a bit more..
Maybe, there are "non lace wearing, non eye liner clad, non tattoed" pictures of fans that we are not being shown????????

  22. I don't think the artist's explanation of the project really improves the situation very much - quite the contrary. He's a "visual story teller" - but what is the story? He selected a group of people that fit a very stereotypical image of what other people expect Cure fans to look like but has very little basis in reality. I went to 2 of the Reflections shows in NYC, a show that is likely not very appealing for all but the most "hardcore" fans, and I don't think I saw a single person dressed like this. Perhaps the "story" is that it's 1989 and we all dress up like Robert? How, umm, interesting and, umm, provocative... (sigh)

  23. Well I for one would very much like to marry the guy at 1:14 and the one with the bass isn't bad either, yum. Says the 20-year-old girl who looks exactly like all the people in the video haha. While it's a nice bit of eye candy for me, naturally I understand where you're all coming from.

  24. Oh what to wear? My ultracure, my black washburn, my black bass?
